National Karate & Tae Kwon Do, Inc. has been an Oklahoma City fixture since 1969. Our owner, Jim Butin, is a 10th-degree black belt. Jim has won more than 150 awards, including a silver medal in the First World Tae Kwon Do Championships in Seoul, Korea, in 1973.
He has won four national championships here in the United States and was a member of the undefeated United States karate team competing in Europe in 1974. Jim was rated #2 in the world as a light heavyweight kickboxer in the PKA from 1974 to 1978. Jim has won over 40 black belt championships in fighting competition.
He was recently honored with his own "Oklahoma Trading Card," as one of the 20 greatest sports heroes in Oklahoma! Former Governor Frank Keating proclaimed, National Karate Day, in honor of Jim Butin's contributions to the community.
